After thinking there was no way he was coming early, the baby had other plans. My water broke yesterday at 5:30 in the morning and contractions started at about 5 minutes apart soon after. I was in complete denial that I was in labor, so I made breakfast and lunch for H and me. I thought i probably just peed myself. I was going to drive H to work, like normal, and go to the doctors appt I had previously scheduled for 8 that morning, but I told H to drive himself in, just is case.
By the time I got to the doctors, which is located at the hospital, my contractions were about 3 minutes apart. I had never met this particular doctor, so he was asking questions about me and what I do and I just wanted to be done with the pain. He checked me. I had indeed broken my water and was 4 cm dilated, so I was sent upstairs to the hospital and admitted.
It took about 2.5 hours for the epidural to be administered, bc first they couldn't find a vein and then they had to wait to bloodwork to come back to rule out preE, bc at my dr visit my Bp was high because I was having a contraction when it was taken. The monitor never picked up that I was having contractions, so I thought I might have been making up the pain in my head, but when the dr did an internal before the epidural I had dilated to 8 cm, so something was happening.
The epidural was amazing. Iwas able to just chill for about an hour and then I told the nurse I thought I was ready to push. She told me probably not, because it usually takes FTM a while to progress. The dr checked me ten minutes later and said I was ready to push. I made sure I had the max epidural in me and when the attending asked if I could feel my legs and what they felt like I said, " happily tipsy, like after you've had a drink or two." She said that was a new description, but you know when you're kind of numb when drinking but you can still feel and take in everything? That's what my legs felt like.
So after about 35 minutes of pushing, our healthy baby boy was born at 6lbs even and 19.5 inches. He wasn't happy with me pushing and had a major heart decel, so I was on oxygen and spent a lot of the pushing time on my side, but I really can't complain.
We decided to name him Benjamin Michael, because that's just what he looked like to us. And we said we weren't going to finalize it till seeing him anyway. He's doing great, getting the hang if a latch and just generally being a baby. I don't know how to do mobile uploads, so I can't share a pic, but he's cute!

Radssss!!! I'm so happy for you!! I love how your water broke and you went on to cook! Lol. Ahhhh! You have a baby! Congratulations!
This is funny, but if I wasn't dead set on Vaughn's name, just by looking at him it would have been Benjamin. For the first few weeks we called him Benjamin Button.
Enjoy this! So happy for you, DH and baby B.

So glad you had an easy labor and delivery! Love the name you chose too!
We had pretty similar labors! My contractions started off 5 min apart and were 3 minutes apart by the time I got to the hospital too. I was glad to get the epi right away though!
To make you feel my love.
Holy crap! I'm glad I checked in with GP Moms today! Congrats M!!! Happy birthday Benjamin!
